Should I kill my Paragon?
Hey there,
When NF first came out, I made a Paragon. She has beaten NF, gotten Castellan and R3 of Lightbringer, a bunch of nice gold shields and spears, 80%of the map. However, I realize I have had almost no fun playing her, the only reason I did and got so far was because it was the first time I had played through NF. I am all full of slots, and really really want to make either a monk or an assassin, or have an open PvP slot. I don't want to buy a new char slot, so I was wondering if anyone could give me reason enough/builds that could convince me to keep my paragon, and bring her through other campaigns? I would like to try varied stuff . . . because Paragons have high AL, maybe try some sort of tank build utilizing adrenaline skills, or run some sort of P/R with arias together with condition inducing arrows. I never am able to get into PUGs for higher level areas, and Paragons are kind of limited in what they can solo, which is why I have not played mine for several months. Any suggestions from more experienced Paragon players?

If you're not having fun with your paragon, than just delete it. Don't play as a character you don't like.
I happen to like my Paragon and will keep it. But nobody can tell you to delete yours except you.

you should only delete a character if you absolutely hate the playstyle...
the paragon's playstyle is:
1. effective dps damage with range
2. very effective when you have a group/guild all playing paragons (observe mode ftw)
3. high armour party support. (condition removal on par with monks)
etc...
so what is your playstyle?

Well, I kind of alternated between #1 with Soldiers Fury and basic cover shouts/chants with a few spear attacks, and #3, with Cautery Signet, some healing on the side like Mending Refrain. It just never seems . . . active enough, as in I am not pulling enough for the group. Also, I have never seen and have no idea what an all Paragon team is like . . . sounds crazy!

Depends on your playstyle. My para is designed to spam GoForTheEyes, and beyond that get in an occasional Deep Wound, and provide some group protection, set stuff on fire. Works really great. But if you just find the para is not fun for you, play something else.

paragorns are a very versatile class and the best "all in 1" class. you can deal damage, protect the entire party, give a lot of health and energy to your party, remove conditions heck you can even bond and tank. as for soloing, paragorn is a bit weak on that department but try a melee paragorn/warrior tank such as ToF or make your own solo build.

Well then, it looks like you will have to come do 8-man paragon fow with us some night. All paragon groups aren't only for pvp, they can also blow right through harder pve areas, as I saw the other night. I think paragons are really useful, especially when u have more then one together. However, it is your ultimate choice whether you want to delete yours or not. It would be a shame though, considering all the stuff you have on him.

i feel the same with with my derv, but im r5lightbringer over a mill xp, but i justget bored with him now, and that my derv got hacked and i have only my 130hp armor left...

I think you should keep your paragon, to my point of view paragons are like monks, with less healing and more offence.
When I FoW for fun with few of my mates I make sure we have a paragon because you may not notice it but that little bit f help (mending refrain) can save you from death and you can have spear attacks ^_^.

Paragons are actually pretty fun to use. While there scope with defense buffs (Motivation) has dropped considerably thanks to some somewhat weird blanket nerfs (way to go Anet) they are still potent damage dealers. I just wish offensive shouts also gave you energy .
On the subject of Para nerfing; Anet really should have just changed a lot of those skills in terms of mechanics, instead of keeping their original purpose but making them far less effective.

I would recommend you not to delete it. Why? Because you never know what ANet might do in future skill balances. I am in much the same situation as you are: Paragon was my first NF char, got Elonan and Canthan protector, good gear ... and havent touched him in months, because he is plain boring to play. However I would not delete him. Simply to much time invested and he might become useful/ful again in the future. After all, buying a new skill slot is not that expensive.

If you enjoyed playing her then keep on, but it seems you didn't enjoy the play style.
Paragons can do alot of stuff, and are really helpful and powerful.
You can try various builds and after that decide, you'll find builds here.

Paragons can solo FoW. As 8-man PvP or PvE teams, they cover all aspects of a team build using the same primary class on each character. They have a very interesting and scalable form of energy management with their shouts, and their buffs are mostly unstrippable. I love them.
However, you obviously didn't have fun during any stretch of your Paragon experience. I probably would have deleted it before reaching lv20.

Let's see...
1) after hours of playing, after getting max armor, gold shields (possibly for Paragons), titles, and spears (paragons for sure), you have decided it wasn't actually any fun at all.
2) never get into any PUG groups for highend stuff
3) You have not ventured past Nightfall with this character - no true reason, because there are no armors nor skills to obtain.
4) You have not truly tried to combo your P/x with other professions to create new and possibly exciting builds.
5) You want to be a Monk, Assassin or have an extra PvP slot.
Hmmm....
1) you have at least tried the Paragon for a long time, and have decided it isn't fun playing one. Possibly the best reason not to continue with one, and delete it.
2) High end stuff PUGs are used to core characters, new professions are not all that welcome (PUG mentality is still stubern).
3) Other than obtaining more titles, possibly farming, no real reason to go into any other campaign, unless you want to experiment with other professions (obtain skills in other campaigns).
4) If you don't like to experiement, then don't bother with #3 either.
5) Assassins probably won't get you into any low level PUGs either. Monks are always needed, but you will be deligated to healing or protection or both in PUGs, so don't get too excited about experimentation in a PUG (you won't be allowed). As for the extra PvP slot, if you PvP more than you PvE, I don't see the harm in having the extra slot then.
Only you can decide to delete or not to, but I'd wait for Eyes To the North, see if the Paragon gets good stuff there.
Then again, when GW2 comes out, this question will be a moot point.

Well, playing so long in a profession you hate sounds masochistic, so Monk might be the way to go. They get no credit when things go well, and they get reamed a new one when things aren't working.

Paragons are pretty amazing in PVE, even before their Sunspear Skill (which makes them pretty amazing).
Sadly, the issue is that the general Guild Wars community is pretty bad at the game. This being the same community that thinks warriors are for tanking and bad at damage, run orison of healing on their monks and whos general means of getting through missions involves party wipes but having 8 copies of rebirth for the numerous times they RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO up.
If you want to play with useless pve pick ups, then paragon isn't the best class to go. If you have a guild that doesn't suck at the game, paragon is a solid character to have available to you.

I find myself constantly apologizing to groups when everything becomes too easy. I can't think of another profession that can do that.
